Ball set rolling for edu city
The prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Education City at Sonepat is all set to get rolling as the Haryana government would soon invite applications from organisations of international repute to start their institutes at the education city.
The implementing agency for this prestigious project, the Haryana Urban Development Authority, has completed the detailed project report for this education city, to be developed on an area of 2,000 acres.
Overcoming the initial hurdles created by the villagers of the area, whose land had been acquired for the project, the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-government decided to adopt the land allotment method for the project. This kind of project that involved academic and educational organisations cannot be build after auctioning the land. The project had to be treated a little differently than the other commercial projects, said a senior official, adding that the government had rejected the proposal to auction land for this project.

Few firemen, old equipment and no rulebook
Last January, there was a major fire in the 12-storeyed Cyber Greens building in DLF, Gurgaon. Though the fire could have been easily doused, Haryana Fire Service (HFS) tenders could not reach beyond the 8th floor. DLF authorities had to request Delhi Fire Services for equipment to control the fire.
It has been more than a year now, but undermanned firemen in Haryana continue to work with outdated equipment. They do not have hydraulic platforms, so they still use conventional mechanical ladders, unmindful of the fact that the township has over 100 skyscrapers.
Developers such as DLF, Ansals and Unitech, among others, have constructed more than 100 high-rise buildings. About 40 more high-rises have been built by Vatika, Vipul Omaxe and others.
