Our Gurgaon centre will undertake end-to-end product development
What is the reason behind setting up an R&D centre in India?
The Indian telecommunication market is growing at an alarming rate. By establishing the R&D centre at Gurgaon we would be able to cater to the emerging local market as well as the global markets. It will also provide opportunities for Indian customers to work with Cienas engineers to solve mission-critical problems. Ciena India will play a major role in furthering Cienas technology and market leadership and in supporting our network specialist approach to delivering carrier-class solutions to customers across the globe. After finding the Indian market favourable for Cienas interests, the company has decided to increase its sales presence here.
Tell us about the kind of R&D you intend to conduct at this centre?
This world-class facility will have the capability to perform complete product R&D lifecycle operations. Product conceptualisation, chip design, circuit board design, mechanical design, embedded software design, network management design and product verification are just a few of the engineering services the centre will perform to help, deliver and support Ciena products for its global customer base. The centre has expertise in embedded software and will undertake end-to-end product development. It will also be working on the integration of storage protocols on Cienas transport products. We are well versed in requirements of the European, Asian as well as North American markets. So this centre will cater to our existing as well as emerging markets. Near about 15 percent of our revenue goes to our R&D centres in India and the US.
