Haryana governments plans to decongest Mall Mile on M-G Road by constructing service lanes and subways on the 2-km stretch with contributions from developers seem headed nowhere — majority of developers have not paid so far and are not ready to do so.

In a recent meeting between with developers whose properties fall on that stretch, HUDA administrator Anurag Aggarwal reiterated the governments resolve to go ahead with the projects as planned and asked the developers to deposit their money at the earliest.

HUDA is asking for the money in lump sum which is not acceptable, says Baljeet Singh of MGF Metropolitan Mall. We have requested them to take the money in accordance with the actual progress in these projects. What if a developer pays the amount in one go and somebody gets a court stay in between and the project gets stalled, he asks.

Singh adds for now, MGF will pay only 50 pc of the amount. Other big players like DLF are also learnt to be reluctant. There are certain reservations over HUDAs plans and we have not committed anything as yet, DLF sources said.

Of the Rs 6.46 crore needed for the service lanes, only Rs 23 lakh has reached the government coffers so far. On the two subways, nothing has come in so far. Of the Rs 5 crore needed to construct the subways, the colonisers were asked to pay Rs 2.5 crore with the other half being contributed by HUDA.

The developers have never said no to the proposal but fact remains that they havent also contributed so far despite many reminders, says HUDA executive engineer S.K. Gupta.
