Gurgaon residents struggle clear toxic waste
At a time when many people are just trying to come to terms with the probable fall out of Clemenceau’s asbestos waste and the bird flu producing a challenge for Government authorities over its curtailment, residents in Gurgaon are struggling to clear the toxic waste dumped by local and neighbouring factories here.
The tonnes of waste from various factories in Gurgaon are said to be toxic and bad for the land and such soil water. Residents of surrounding areas believe the factories wastes as the main cause of their health problems.
“We have to face lot of problems due to factories. They throw their wastes here at the cemetery and we don’t find place for cremation. Our eyes get dusty which even makes it a really difficult job for doctors too,” said Hoshiyar Singh.
Meanwhile, the government officials are claiming to have take adequate measures claimed to have taken initiatives to ensure the processing of the factories wastes before being dumped.
C.V. Singh, Regional Officer, Haryana Pollution Control Board said that a separate body will be constituted soon to monitor the factories which violate the pollution norms.e said, “Government is very serious towards the problem of wastes. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to formulate Haryana Environment Management Society, which will not only control the pollution but also ensure that the toxic wastes of the factories should be dumped only after processing. There are laws regarding water pollution, air pollution etc. We give show cause notice to the factories which violate the pollution norms.”
Mostly small farmers and vegetable growers find themselves at the receiving end as they think their farming lands are loosing production quality due to pollution. (ANI)
