Government to auction prime land at Gurgaon
Chandigarh: A prime piece of land measuring 19.5 acres in Haryanas industrial hub of Gurgaon - worth millions of rupees - will be auctioned by the state government.
This was decided at a meeting of the Haryana cabinet here Tuesday that was chaired by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. A government spokesman said the reserve price for the land had been fixed at Rs.500 million.
A decision last year by the previous government led by Om Prakash Chautala to allow construction company DLF Universal to buy this land had led to a controversy.
The Chautala government, just before going out of power in February 2005, had allowed DLF to buy the land at cheap rates from the panchay at or village council of Nathupur for developing an IT city.
This was done without putting the land to open auction and had raised eyebrows in Haryanas political circles.
Hoodas government has decided to acquire the land from the panchayat and sell it through open auction.
The spokesman said the state would give DLF another chance to buy the land by matching the highest bid received by the government. If DLF did not match the highest bid, the land would be given to the highest bidder.
